On Sundays, wineries all over Greece remained open to the public in celebration of Wine Tourism Day, providing visitors the opportunity to witness how wine is prepared and taste various types.
Visitors will have the chance to tour vineyards as well as wineries, meet the winemakers, gain knowledge regarding the stages of wine production, tasting new and aged wines, and acquire information in terms of fresh wines of this year’s harvest.
The European Wine Tourism Day is observed every year on the second Sunday of November.
Experts claim that this is the ideal time of year to visit a winery: The new wines are by now in the tanks, the winemakers are chilled out after the frenzy of harvesting and preparing the batches for this year and they are prepared to welcome wine lovers and guide them around the premises, talk to them regarding courses of the crop and about the estimates of new production.
In 2017, over 6,000 people visited the wineries of Northern Greece to have the knowledge of the world of wine. Similar numbers visited wineries in Peloponnese, Crete, and Central Greece.
Wine tourism in recent years has become a trend that has developed rapidly in all wine-producing countries. It is often in amalgamation with the gastronomy of the particular region. Also, wine tourism supports wine producers, who have the chance to sell their wines directly to wine lovers.
