Of late Indonesian government’s ‘wonderful Indonesia campaign’ has played an important role in transforming the tourism industry of the country into a vivacious and fast developing industry among others. Host of new destinations like Lombok, Bintan and Maluku are rapidly gaining prominence among other attractions.
Indonesian government in 2015 invested Rp.1.3 trillion to boost tourism thereby creating more than 10 million job opportunities. The GDP rose to 9.6 percent with oil, gas and palm oil being the top earners. By 2019, the country is expecting to make tourism the biggest foreign exchange earner with more than US$24 billion annually. Being ambitious, the country wants 20 million tourists to pour in Indonesia with 12 million in 2016. Asian Development Bank has also decided to lend US$10 billion to the country to meet its target.
39th PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) Travel Mart held only recently succeeded in attracting 1358 visitors from more than 63 nations highlighting the importance of business tourism in the country. Business tourism helps to improve hospitality industry. However, travelling outside Bali still remains difficult. Government has announced plans for expanding airports and local transports to give tourism in a better shape.
Bintan is famous for its unmatched beauty! Surrounded by long coastlines, this place is quite close to Johor and Singapore. This place is currently being marketed by the locals and tourists coming from Singapore. Thus international traffic plays an instrumental role in driving the image of this place.
Julia Suryakusuma believes that good amount of cash injection is important in promoting Bintan and making this place at par with Bali. Not making it just another destination, officials are all geared up to make Bintan a prime ecotourism destination of Indonesia. Maluku is being promoted as a divine destination. Lombok is also facing major transformation making important mark in the tourism scenario of the country.
Last year, Lombok was recognized as the world’s best Halal tourism and honeymoon destination.
The government also announced that it’s aiming to attract more Arab tourists by signing agreement Emirates and Qatar Airways
