Around 10.24 a.m. on Tuesday, the British Transport Police officers were called to the spot immediately after reports of a person who was hit by a train close to the station. A spokesperson of British Transport Police said that the officers were accompanied by paramedics. However, despite their presence, the person was declared dead at the scene.
The spokesperson said that the dead body would be identified by the officers who would then inform the family members of the deceased man.
He further went on to add that the death of the person was not at all suspicious and that a file would be prepared for the coroner to investigate the case. Widespread disruption has been caused on account of the incident, particularly the journeys between Brighton and Redhill. The journey times between Brighton and Haywards have been delayed by at least 90 minutes.
Now, the Great Western Railways services would be terminated at Redhill. They would not call at the Gatwick Airport as a consequence of the congestion triggered by the disruption caused by the incident.
Travellers who would be experiencing delays in their journeys would be entitled to compensation.
If travellers wish to check their journey, they should utilize the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner. Meanwhile, the British Transport Police reported of another incident in Sutton where a man was hit by a train around 9.50 a.m. He was treated by a London Ambulance Service.
A spokesperson of the British Transport Police said that the injuries of the man are not life threatening.
He said that the man had been removed from the tracks and is currently being treated by paramedics at the scene. The incident is responsible for leading to delays for about 40 minutes to the journeys that were taking place through Sutton.
