It occurred a short while after the plane took off from Conakry, the capital of Guinea. There were crew members on board a flight of Turkish Airlines, and the name of the woman who have birth is Nafi Diaby who was 28 weeks pregnant. She had started having contractions a little while after the flight took off.
Some of the passengers of the flight also went ahead to assist in the delivery of the baby girl at about 42,000 feet.
In its official statement, a spokesperson of Turkish Airlines stated that the cabin crew had noticed that the pregnant woman was in pain and immediately were ready to assist her.
Both the mother and the baby, Kadiju were taken to the hospital after the Boeing 737 had landed in the Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou with an aim to keep the patient under observation. Both of them are reported to be exhausted but in good health.
The airline declared the happy news on a social media platform.
Expectant mothers are capable of travelling with most airlines until they are 36 weeks pregnant. However, it is also recommended that they consult midwives or GPs beforehand.
Certain airlines including Ryanair make it mandatory for pregnant women to carry a letter from a certified medical professional especially if she is 28 or more weeks pregnant.
