I Gde Pitana, the deputy for foreign marketing development at the Ministry of Tourism said that China is one of the significant source markets for the tourism industry of Indonesia.
This year, between January and April, approximately 4.2 million overseas tourists came to Indonesia out of which 1.1 million were Chinese.
Majority of them explored Manado in North Sulawesi and Bali. Many of those visitors availed Lion Air which has flights from six Chinese cities.
“The expo is likely to attract more Chinese visitors to Indonesia. This is the largest annual exhibition of this kind in China,” Pitana said.
More than 500 exhibitors from 30 countries would be featured at the Silk Road International Tourism Expo of this year offering culinary and entertainment attractions, accommodation, transportation and travel packages to more than 45,000 visitors.
The booth of Wonderful Indonesia was 108 square meters and was created to assist the sellers of Indonesia in meeting foreign buyers. Side by side, the event also promoted cultural attractions and had arranged for a special coffee corner for the guests. According to Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, the growth in Chinese visitors has been prompted by the recent promotional activities of the ministry.
“It is part of our strategy to have 15 million foreign tourist visit Indonesia in 2017,” he said.
