“Wonderful Indonesia” plans to launch Kolkata-Indonesia flights

Indonesia roadshow 2016The Ministry of Tourism Republic of Indonesia conducted a roadshow to promote “Wonderful Indonesia”, the tourism brand of the country on 22nd August at a hotel in Kolkata with an aim to lure more tourists from India.




Mr. Dody Prianto, assistant deputy director, Ministry of Tourism, Republic of Indonesia and Herdy D. Sayogha, vice chairman of the Badung Tourism Promotion Board led the roadshow that was quite successful.

Speaking at the event, Dody Prianto said that last year Indonesia attracted 2,72,000 Indian tourists and this year, the Ministry of Tourism is expecting the figures to catapult to 3,50,000, marking an increase of over 28% over the year. He went on to add that the eastern zone of India has an immense potential to contribute to the tourism industry of the country. And, to promote an increased Kolkata-Indonesia travel, the Indonesian government is on its way to plan the launching the direct flights from Kolkata to Indonesia in the near future.


Dody PriantoMr. Prianto also said that the country would be capable of surpassing its rivals, namely, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia in terms of drawing more Indian tourists only if it makes the travel from the regions of eastern India to Indonesia more comfortable.


He stated that Indonesia proudly flaunts its ten destinations of ‘new Bali’ that witnesses the visits of maximum number of Indian tourists. The regions are Borobudur in Central Java, Mandalika in Lombak Island, Labuan Bajo in Flores Island, NIT, Bromo-Tengger-Sumeru in East Java, Thousand Islands in North Jakarta, Toba Lake in North Sumatra, Wakatobi in southeast Sulawesi, Tanjung Lesung in West Java, Moratai in Maluka Islands and Tanjung Kelayang in Sumatra.


Mr. Herdy Sayogha also sounded confident about the scope of the country’s tourism in terms of attracting Indian tourists.


He elaborated about the magical charm of Badung, the regency of Bali that is known as the ‘gateway of Indonesia’. Mr. Sayogha said that Badung is a crucial tourist destination of the nation, and it is the home to numerous convention centres of MICE, thereby being quite appealing to business tourists besides being the nerve-centre of leisure tourism in Indonesia.


According to him, Badung interests Indian travellers particularly since it is renowned for hosting wedding parties thanks to its numerable wedding chapels located on cliffs, gardens and even overlooking the sea.


He concluded by saying that the country is  looking forward to welcoming more tourists from Kolkata as the travellers belonging to this part of the country is eager to explore brand new destinations.
