The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) in partnership with Tourism Tasmania, is hosting a series of industry workshops this weekend to help put Tasmanian tourism products in front of key international markets.
The event will attract 40 top tourism operators from across the state and 40 of the most influential inbound tour operators (ITOs) from across the country. The ITOs will have the opportunity to meet leading tourism suppliers at a sales workshops as they learn about new products, itineraries and destinations to promote to overseas visitors.
“TasBound will give local ATEC members a valuable opportunity to promote their product to some of Australia’s leading tour operators and boost their exposure to the international market,” ATEC Managing Director, Peter Shelley said.
“These events are a fantastic way for local tourism businesses to get in front of the tour operators who make choices about what product offerings they put forth to the international market, so it is a valuable opportunity for these business to really get out there and be seen.
“With the recent announcement of the expansion of Hobart Airport, TasBound is a timely event that will support further growth of the export tourism industry in the State.”
Mr Shelley said Tasmania had seen an impressive 20% growth in international visitors to last year, the largest increase in international visitor numbers of any Australian state.
“With 211,000 international tourists visiting Tasmania last year alone, there is no doubt that the State’s global reputation is growing, particularly in markets such as the United States and China which are now their largest sources of international visitors.”
ATEC and Tourism Tasmania have been working closely to build international markets and TasBound is a key component of this strategy.
“Tasmania is rising to the top of more and more travellers “must-see” list, with our promise of a unique and sometimes quirky experience drawing a record number of visitors to our island,” the Premier and Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events Will Hodgman said.
“We want to see this trend continue, which is why opportunities to engage with inbound tour operators through TasBound are so important.
“This is a chance to make sure we’re not waiting to be discovered. Instead, we are telling the world what we have to offer, and that’s the best people, places and produce they have ever experienced.”
TasBound takes place in Hobart and includes a range of tours throughout the State providing international buyers with first hand experience of the amazing tourism product on offer to the international traveller.
