imagesGlobal passenger traffic has increased by 6% in October this year, indicating a strong growth in air travel demand for both domestic and international traffic. The Airport Council International (ACI) reported that the first ten months of 2015 showed world passenger traffic increase by 6.1%, international passenger flow by 6.2% and domestic passenger number by 6.4%.

“International passenger number enjoyed growth at 6.3%, while domestic passenger traffic increased by 5.8%.” This positive trend in passenger demand is a result of introduction of lower fares, particularly for leisure travel.

In North America, low oil prices, improved financial positions of the airlines and expectations for better macroeconomic performance in the coming year stimulated the highest increase of 7.2% in the passenger number.

Middle Eastern airports tasted both rise and decline in the growth rates with total growth at 6.9%. Total passenger traffic in the airports of Sub-Saharan Africa declined by 1.2% as compared to October 2014.The three airports in Egypt Cairo (CAI), Sharm El Sheikh (SSH) and Hurghada (HRG) – suffered traffic decline of 4.6%, 5.8% and 8.1% respectively.

Looming terrorist threats and declining oil prices has significantly brought down the traffic at Lagos (LOS) by 12%. According to the report, a growth rate of 5.7% was witnessed at European airports and 6.7% in the airports of the Asia-Pacific region.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, passenger traffic grew by 3.2%, and Mexico City (MEX), Lima (LIM) and Cancun (CUN) reported strong growth of 10.8%, 11.7% and 12.6% respectively.
