Yarralin is a remote Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory of Australia.
Northern Territory Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Peter Chandler said the upgrades include extension and widening of the runway; sealing of runway, taxiway and apron; new line marking; installation of cattle grid and aerodrome signage.
“This is a much needed upgrade for the Yarralin community and will be a welcomed improvement,” Mr Chandler said.
“The existing aerodrome is unsealed with poor drainage which results in expensive maintenance and in times of heavy rains the community of Yarralin is cut off from other townships.”
Yarralin community is located 382 km south west of Katherine, on the Victoria River Downs cattle station.
“I encourage local companies to apply for the tender which closes on 8 July 2015,” Mr Chandler said.
The contract award is expected to be awarded in August 2015 with completion by December 2015.
