More than 40 people were killed in a major Yemeni city following four suicide car bombings. The tragic incident took place in a major Yemeni city killing at least 42 people most of whom were soldiers.
The attacks occurred in Mukalla, a south-eastern port city in Hadramaut province.
More than 30 people were injured – five of which whom were civilians and rest all were security officers.
One of the attacks targeted a military compound near a government intelligence building and the other bombings were targeted at military checkpoints. Sadly, a child walking near one of the checkpoints was killed.
A media voice of Islamic extremist group, ISIS said in a statement published on Twitter that four ISIS attackers targeted a joint security base.
The areas attacked had been mostly controlled by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and ISIS before government forces started a campaign against that group. In the last three months alone, in Hadramaut, AQAP and ISIS has been responsible for at least 40 attacks, reported by the Defence Ministry.
Over the time, Yemen has become a proxy battleground for Saudi Arabia and Iran. A Saudi-led coalition got involved in March 2015 by launching airstrikes in support of Hadi against rebel targets in Yemen. And amongst all this violence, thousands of civilians are killed.
