Despite the whole business remaining strong, the babymoon and honeymoon specialists are facing a shift in the destinations’ choice. Caribbean babymoons, soon-to-be parents are choosing Zika-free vacation spot like Canada or Hawaii than the traditional Caribbean choice.
Caribbean specialist with Andavo Travel described the change in the shift and said that this trend is only prevalent amongst the honeymoon couples or couples that are expecting babies.
The Zika virus is most dangerous for pregnant women. Its symptoms include mild fevers, headaches, muscle pain, rashes, joint pain, conjunctivitis which are similar to regular dengue and chikungunya. If a pregnant woman is infected with Zika, it might cause a devastating birth defect where the child is born with an undeveloped skull. t has also been linked to Guillaine-Barre syndrome, a disorder in which the immune system attacks the nervous system.
Although there has been no locally acquired mosquito-borne case of Zika in the U.S reported in the last week, there were 755 travel-associated cases and one laboratory case reported by CDC. The Caribbean and South America, some Pacific islands and Cape Verde, Africa has shown the active transmission of Zika virus. Canada, Montana, Maldives and Tahiti are the new choice for newlyweds.
Hawaii, on a whole is a great alternative destination as it has warm, tropical, Caribbean-type climate and is has no reported case of Zika virus.
Whilst the travel sector remains unaffected due to Zika virus, agents are continuously educating their clients on the importance of travel insurance.
