zimbabwe flagA report by the Zimbabwean Parliament has revealed that Zimbabwe has lost over $40 million from tourists coming from Nordic countries as a result of cancellation of 30 marketing shows due to the government’s bankruptcy. Norway, Sweden and Finland are among the Nordic countries. Netherland’s tourist arrivals of late are also increasing steadily.

The report said, “Only three (3) international travel shows will be funded by government in 2017 against a target of 33 such planned shows. Travel shows are important for attracting tourists; for instance, tourist arrival from Nordic countries increased from 9000 to 20000 after the Netherlands travel show with estimated foreign currency inflow of $42 million.”

Due to lack of funding, the government has canceled the traditional Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) hosted Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo and Harare International Carnival. The carnival in Harare before attracted over 50,000 visitors from the region and other areas.
