Ireland saw an increase in the overseas visitor numbers by 11.23 per cent, in Jan. 2019.  There were about 66,000 more overseas arrivals as compared with Jan. 2018. Arrivals in the month of January represent around 6 per cent of total annual arrivals as per Niall Gibbons, Tourism Ireland CEO. He adds that these figures by CSO indicates a positive start.

In January, there was an increase of arrivals from North America (12.3 per cent), Mainland Europe (12.2 per cent), Britain (10.4 per cent) and Australia and emerging markets (9.4 per cent). France, Germany, Spain and Italy were strong performers as well.  Ireland witnessed an extra 11,500 US and Canadian visitors.

Gibbons added: “Tourism Ireland’s campaigns are in full swing around the world to build on the success of 2018. Our promotions will receive a tremendous boost next month, with our Global Greening initiative for St. Patrick’s Day set to be even bigger and better than ever before. St. Patrick’s Day traditionally marks the real start of the tourism season for us and we will be taking every opportunity to capitalise on Ireland’s heightened profile.”

They aim to grow overseas tourism revenue this year to euro 6.5 billion for the island of Ireland.
