Authorities said that on Sunday afternoon a gang of gunmen reportedly attacked a bar in the capital of Brazil’s northern Pará state that left 11 people dead.
Further the state security agency confirmed that among those six were women and five men died in the massacre that took place in the Guama neighbourhood of the Para state capital, Belem.
The police reported that seven gunmen were involved in the attack which left one wounded. The attacker came to the bard on motorcycle and in three cars.
The federal government earlier in March is known to sent National Guard troops to Belém to reinforce security in the city for 90 days.
According to official statistics in 2017, Brazil had hit a record high of 64,000 homicides out of which 70% were due to the firearms.
It was observed that most of the violence in Brazil was due to violence. Fortaleza was attacked by gangs in January that brought the city to a standstill leading to the shut down of buses and taxis.
According to a group that monitors shootings in the Rio metropolitan area there were 2,300 shootings in Rio and its suburbs during the first 100 days of this year.
In the Rio de Janeiro state killings attributed to police gunfire reached a record high. It rose to 18% in the first three months, this was partly due to the campaign of a zero tolerance for criminals pushed by the state leaders.
