167 guests and crew members were sickened by a Norovirus outbreak on the Oasis of the Seas on its way to Jamaica. Royal Caribbean International officials announced that the ship will return to Florida a day earlier than planned. Each passenger will receive a full refund.
Owen Torres, Royal Caribbean spokesperson said, “we think the right thing to do is get everyone home early rather than have guests worry about their health.”
A Norovirus outbreak was reported on Wednesday on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas after more than 100 passengers and crew members became ill.
277 guests and crew members were sickened by a Norovirus outbreak on the seven-day Caribbean cruise.
Passengers tweeting that they were forced to stay onboard after docking in Falmouth, Jamaica.
The ship will be cleaned and sanitized before it embarks on the next journey.
As per a statement by Royal Caribbean, “As of today, 167 cases of gastrointestinal illness have been reported since Sunday, representing two per cent of the nearly 9,000 guests and crew on board.”
They claim to have bought additional medical staff on board and are engaging in intensive sanitary procedures to minimize the risk of any further issues.
