Cyclone Maha that has developed in UAE coast is supposed to cause water surges, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

The tropical storm had progressed into a category 1 cyclone on Sunday, with wind speeds of up to 130 KMPH on Sunday and it was forecast to further progress into a category 2 cyclone with expected wind speeds of 160-170 KMPH wind speeds at its centre.

The storm is supposed to affect UAE from Monday to Wednesday. Water surge is supposed to affect low land during the period of the high tide over the coast east from Monday to Wednesday.

Kalba (Sharjah), Dibba (Fujairah) and Khor Fakkan (Sharjah) are  among the cities on the east coast.

This will be the second cyclone to impact UAE in as many weeks. Last week, a hotel worker in Dibba Fujairah was drowned after he caught up in high waves caused by cyclone Kyarr. Authorities had to evacuate as many as 20 families as an overnight storm had caused flooding in Sharjah’s Kalba city. The roads had to be shut and schools had to be closed temporarily due to this natural disaster.

Cyclone Maha is supposed to recurve towards the northwest by Tuesday. Meanwhile, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority has asked residents to stay away from the waters off the eastern coast. As per the forecast, the Oman Sea will be looking even rougher until Thursday.

Winds are expected to blow at a speed of 16-36 km/hr throughout the day across the UAE.
