The Maldives witnessed a growth in visitors from the UK with 18.7 per cent increase during November 2017 while comparing it with the same period last year.
It was recorded that 9,579 UK visitors travelled to the Maldives during November 2017, compared with 8,073 in November last year.
While UK visitors represented 7.9 per cent of all visitors to Maldives in November 2017.
It had a total of 94,258 UK visitors travelling to the Maldives in the first 11 months of 2017 showing a 1.1 per cent year-on-year increase.
Considering the worldwide arrivals to the Maldives, the island nation witnessed a year-on-year growth of 15.2 per cent in November 201.
Around 120,506 international tourists visited the Maldives during November 2017.
The total number of arrivals to the Maldives in 2017 was 1,246,502 by the end of November as compared with the same period in 2016, an increase by 6.8 per cent was noted.
Several new tourism developments in 2018 will be welcomed to support the increasing demand in Maldives.
It will include expansion plans at the recently re-branded Velana International Airport and the opening of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge in July.
Mohamed Anil, attorney general, Maldives said that it was a very exciting time for the Maldives with a number of key infrastructure developments taking place during 2018 and beyond. It is expected to benefit both tourists and the local community.
The tourism industry here is continuously expanding with ten new hotel resorts opening during the next few years.
