500+ flights are cancelled in the USA near the July 4 travel weekend. Many passengers had booked flights for spending the weekend at relatives’ homes are suffering.

In Wednesday, more than 500+ flights were cancelled. Additionally, 1300 flights have been cancelled. Many passengers said they booked flights earlier to avoid this. But, still, they are disappointed. American Airlines cancelled 200 flights and United cancelled 100 flights.

Passengers who have booked flights this early have stated they never expected this to happen. This is a time when the post-pandemic travel restrictions are being uplifted. Passengers have finally started to take steps outside their homes. This cancellation might disrupt the enthusiasm of travellers to travel at all.

The pilot shortage is the main cause for the delay and cancellation, as the airlines are stating. The pilot shortage has been a recurring problem since the pandemic. About 60% of experienced pilots retired from the services. Officials state that this problem is going to be evident for quite some time now. The airline officials are trying to retain the pilots with additional pay.

The CEO of ultra-low-cost Avelo Andrew Levy said that there is a necessity for high-class professionals as pilots. More people are required to enter the profession as soon as possible to deal with the problem. Federal Aviation Administration is struggling to provide staff in many air control centres.
