The grass is greener on the other side. The proverbial saying is coming true for Briton travellers. Two thirds of Britons prefer spending Christmas away from home, as per a new research. 42 per cent of Brits would be willing to go abroad for Christmas, while 25 per cent would be happy to travel elsewhere in the UK.

The research on Britons’ plans for Christmas was conducted by Bolsover Cruise Club a cruise agent. Away from home the top destinations are New York, Melbourne and St Barts. Other popular destinations are Sydney, Berlin, Brisbane, California, Paris, Oslo and Sorrento.

Only a third (33 per cent) wants to remain at their own home.

While both genders equally considered spending Christmas away from home, men were more inclined to travel abroad. Millennials preferred to spend Christmas at home.

Norwich residents were most likely to spend Christmas away from home. Liverpudlians were most likely to spend Christmas abroad. However, Bristolians were most likely to stick to traditions and spend the festivities at home.

Searches for ‘Christmas in…’ France, Turkey, Germany, Spain and Australia had the most search volumes in December last year.

People are becoming increasingly escaping British winter weather for Christmas as per Michael Wilson, Managing Director at Bolsover Cruise Club.
