80,000 airline passengers suffer due to Belgium strike, train chaos

There was a 24 hours strike in Belgium that led to flights cancellation to and from the country’s airport.

 

To support pay demands the public –sector workers have stopped work and started to strike at 10 pm on Tuesday which continued till 10 pm on Wednesday.

 

So far 500 flights to and from the main airport was grounded  while Antwerp and Charleroi airports are closed and some flight diverted.

 

 

For overflights the Belgian airspace is open while concerns over filling crucial roles for handling arriving and departing flights led to air-traffic organisation , Skeyes which ordered the ground stop.

 

 

More than 200 flights has been cancelled by the Brussels Airlines and is operating 11 services on Wednesday  where four of them were intra-Africa links and then rest long-haul flights which will fly after the strike ends.

 

 

Brussels Airport conveyed to the passengers that although the terminal remains open they requested their  passengers not to come to the airport on Wednesday.

Passengers whose flight has been affected should get in touch with the airline.

 

British Airways said that they were forced to cancel  flights to/from Brussels on Wednesday 13 February and they contacted customers by SMS if their flight was cancelled.
