81 per cent increase in Chinese tourists to GCC: ATM 2019

 A recently published data ahead of the Arabian Travel Mart revealed that the number of Chinese tourists visiting the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will increase by 81 per cent, from 1.6 million in 2018 to 2.0 million in 2019.

 

 

The Colliers international in partnership with ATM said that the GCC countries at the moment is attracting one per cent of the China’s outbound market.

 

 

Positive trends are expected in the coming years with 400 million Chinese tourists visiting abroad in 2030. This will be up from 154 million in 2018.

 

 

In recent years China’s link with the GCC have strengthened with the addition of direct airlines routes and a strong growth in the Chinese economy and the disposable income of the Chinese tourists’.

 

 

Figures from the ATM 2018 show that 25 per cent of delegates, exhibitors and attendees showed keen interest in doing business in China.

 

 

Danielle Curtis, exhibition director, Middle East, Arabian Travel Market, said that  by 2030 China will be responsible for a quarter of international tourism. The GCC will capitalize on the growth as million are willing to make their first international trips. There are plenty of investment opportunities and plenty of leisure attractions.

 

 

Looking ahead to ATM 2019 the number of Chinese exhibitors participating at ATM almost doubled last year and the same is expected to happen.

 

 

Saudi Arabia is expected to have a compound annual growth rate of 33 per cent between 2018 and 2022  and will have the highest proportionate increase in arrivals from China.

 

 

The influx is driven by China’s cultural and educational exchanges and over a period of ten years the airports in the Middle East and China showed the fastest increase in hub connectivity worldwide. There are direct flights from GCC to other Chinese destinations.
