Tis the season of love, and what better way to convey your emotions to your special someone than by presenting a bouquet of red roses, a box of assorted chocolates, a romantic dinner date, or a leisurely drive. At Tourism Fiji, we’re reimagining this timeless tradition with a sustainable twist. This year, Fiji, the renowned South Pacific archipelago and a top honeymoon destination, introduces a unique and eco-friendly option for lovebirds: the Coral Bouquet planting for Valentine’s Day.

Fiji, boasting the third-largest barrier reef globally (The Great Sea Reef, known as Cakaulevu), is surrounded by exquisite yet delicate corals vulnerable to the effects of warming oceans. Opting for the Coral Bouquet as a Valentine’s Day gift ensures that 100% of the proceeds contribute to the efforts of the prominent coral restoration NGO, Coral Gardeners Fiji. This organization will plant and nurture a beautiful coral cluster in the name of love.

Here’s how it works: Purchase a Coral Bouquet through The Coral Gardeners website at $25 per coral plant, personalize a message for your Valentine, and receive a downloadable card featuring an image of the budding coral bouquet to share on February 14th. Similar to a relationship, coral requires love, care, and time to thrive, so recipients will receive updates from Coral Gardeners on the growth of the coral.

Coral Gardeners, founded by young surfers, free divers, and fishermen of French Polynesia in 2017, has successfully planted over 100,000 corals in French Polynesia. The organization aims to plant a million corals worldwide by 2025.

Having recently established an international hub in Fiji, headquartered at Six Senses Fiji, and forming a Premium partnership with Tourism Fiji, Coral Gardeners Fiji is actively contributing to coral reef regeneration and protection through restoration initiatives and awareness campaigns in the destination. The Coral Gardeners have also joined forces with Warner Brothers for the release of the movie “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” with Jason Momoa serving as their chief ambassador, drawing attention to coral bleaching and the damage inflicted by climate change.

It’s time to embrace love for sustainability and acknowledge the significance of responsible travel practices that positively impact the environment, local communities, and economies.
