A conclave on ecotourism to be held in Agra

Tapping the potential tourists visiting Taj Mahal at Agra and bringing them up to Etawah is what the department of environment, forest and climate change (EFCC) in UP is considering. Agra-Etawah eco-tourism circuit comes with a lot of potential.

To explore the possibilities, a conclave on ecotourism will be held in Agra on Friday, where participants would be from the tourism guild along with the senior officials of the department.

Starting from the Taj Nature Walk at Agra, the circuit has Sur Sarovar bird sanctuary (Keetham Lake) in Agra, along with National Chambal Sanctuary that is internationally known for ghariyals and more than 300 bird species in Agra and Etawah districts and finally, the lion safari at Etawah.

In the conclave, the department would make a presentation to the private entrepreneurs regarding the possibilities that the circuit holds for ecotourism. It would be followed by dry runs of tourists to understand more on the infrastructural and other requirements.

APCCF, Agra zone, Sunil Choudhary said, “We are thinking of making it into two circuits between Agra and Etawah. One would start at the Taj and have Keetham lake and Churmura elephant conservation and care centre at Mathura on the route and the other would start at Agra and have Chambal sanctuary and lion safari on the route.”

The success of the circuit would open possibilities for other circuits. “We are also working on Delhi-Moradabad-Amangarh circuit,” said the official.
