A global unusual tsunami might be on its way

Followed by the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcanic eruption in the early January of 2022, a series of tsunamis are expected to have hit. The coast of Portugal was hit by the wave 10 hours before it was expected to arrive. Recently coast of Spain was hit by a mini tsunami that shocked most of the beachgoers.

Since then the tsunami that hits is expected to be very unusual as it might have a worldwide range. The tsunami has begun on January 15, 2022. The tsunami has a faster propagation rate than the rest of the tsunamis in the world. The tsunami has been seen to have been subject to unusual heights of wave and duration.

Rachid Omira a researcher and author working at Instituto Dom Luiz, Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Portugal) said that it is likely to be the first time when a seismic wave underwater has caused such a tsunami that too global. Thus, this is a unique opportunity for scientists to study the relationship between water with air. The relationship between global warming and climate change can be accurately calculated.

The study will cover satellite, sea-level, and atmospheric data from all over the world and use numerical and analytical models to show that the tsunami was caused by an acoustic-gravity wave. This wave was created by the volcano explosion and it is travelling across the globe.

Several other European coasts are also expecting mini to big tsunamis. The atmospheric change can also be noticed with the help of this global phenomenon.
