The theme-based Adalaj step well tourism zone developed by the Gujarat state government will now be given off to private investors on public-private partnership mode. The investor will have to design, build, finance and run the premises for luring tourists.

The area to be developed into a possible tourism zone is about 23,500 sq. m. around the step well. “No major construction activities will be allowed within 100m to 300m radius of the step well, except for special circumstances where one will require permissions from the National Monuments Authority,” said the tourism department giving our clear guidelines for investors.

There will be a museum developed by TCGL to display history, architecture and other features of the Adalaj step well. A theme-based park beyond the ASI-protected limits is also being considered under the project.

“The developer will have to bear 30% of the project cost. Also, there is provision for letting the place for banquets, setting up multi-cuisine restaurants and holding retail activities including a crafts bazaar,” said a senior TCGL official.
The department thinks that Adalaj has a lot of tourism potential as Gandhinagar is located along Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor that is expected to be major growth area in the coming days.
