At the recent Sun&Blue Congress 2024, Adolfo Borrero Villalón, CEO of Aalto Consultores, shared insights into the evolution of the blue economy in Andalusia.
Borrero, who initiated the Sun&Blue Congress three years ago, emphasized its role in fostering a community dedicated to sustainable economic growth within the region’s extensive coastal areas.
“Our goal with this event is to cultivate an ecosystem that supports the blue economy, which is a significant contributor to Andalusia’s GDP,” Borrero stated. He highlighted the unique opportunity to achieve economic development with a strong emphasis on sustainability, citing examples presented by experts like Gunter Pauli.
Borrero also discussed the transformation of traditional industries through sustainable practices, noting Almería as a model for sustainable tourism. His experience includes leading Cactus Soluciones Energéticas, focusing on energy-saving initiatives, and consulting on sustainable projects for municipalities.
Addressing climate change, Borrero observed, “We are witnessing changes such as beachgoers in November, which was unimaginable 20 years ago.” He stressed the importance of early warning systems and data integration, particularly in regions like Valencia, to mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events.
Borrero highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in enhancing energy efficiency, mobility, and spatial planning within the blue economy. He emphasized the need to raise public awareness about the effects of tourism and climate change, aiming to foster a more informed and proactive community.
The Sun&Blue Congress continues to serve as a platform for discussing sustainable development and innovation in the blue economy, reflecting Borrero’s commitment to integrating technology and sustainability in regional growth strategies.
