Right now, adventure tourism is one of the most promising sectors. Hence, there is an urgent need for promoting and developing it on modern lines with trained people in the line. Tourism arrivals in J&K these days are quite low key. May used to be the peak month with regard to domestic tourism. Unfortunately, some media channels have painted a scary picture of Kashmir, which has driven away potential visitors! The situation resembles early nineties of the last century when tourist inflow had been reduced to almost zero!
Tourism in Kashmir has two main aspects: One is leisure tourism which represents people coming to enjoy the climate, landscape and visiting various resorts and historical gardens among others. They constitute the bulk of tourists who had been coming right from the start of Kashmir tours. The other segment is the active tourism which includes people coming for undertaking various physical activities like trekking, mountaineering, skiing, rafting and so on. Kashmir has unlimited potential for these activities with its mountains, streams and vast snow covered areas. In fact, the state is the destination for ultimate adventure!
