In the expansion of running a successful pilot programme for domestic customers in April, Air New Zealand is running the test feature to 25 percent of the app to users traveling domestically and five percent of app users traveling on an international short-haul flight.

This feature in the app provides access to customers to view the last recorded status of their bag while traveling on the go. Following the completion of the bag drop ‘Check status’ it would automatically appear on the flight details screen in the app.

An advantage to the passengers will be that they can now track their luggage updates throughout their journey, making it hassle–free. The process records from check-in, on board, to when it arrives at their destination.

Recently, Air New Zealand Chief Digital Officer, Nikhil Ravishankar stated that Air New Zealand is dedicated to developing into the world’s leading digital airline and baggage tracking shows its commitment to deliver customer-oriented innovations.

Previously, mishandled baggage came under the spotlight with a large number of bags disrupted both locally and overseas.

Therefore, Air New Zealand confirmed with the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) Biosecurity Team to create a new Baggage tracking digital tool for the clearance process and be done with the use of paper receipts.

Added by Mr. Ravishankar is that they are now well-prepared to deal with any future disruptions that may occur.
