Today Airbnb has published new data on the effect of sharing home community all over the Western Cape, emphasizing the constant growth of guests from the region and the positive effect Airbnb ushers into the local families, communities and businesses.
The data that takes care of host earnings and guest spending, emphasized that in 2017, the Airbnb community churned out an estimated R5 billion of financial activity of the region, boosting up the economy of the local region and putting money back in the pockets of regular people.
Other main highlights of the data show that Airbnb has kept on growing all across the Western Cape.
Last year, close to 15,000 hosts across the region greeted 540,000 guest arrivals worldwide, a growth of 86 percent in comparison to 2016.
Hosting on Airbnb boost local economy:
The typical listing was disclosed for less than two days a month with the typical host earning around R34, 400 ($2,600) annually. The Airbnb hosts earned a total of R1 billion, helping the local families in boosting their income. The typical guests expended almost R1, 715 every day in local communities and businesses.
Sharing home helps to spread tourism benefit:
Popular destinations outside the typical tourist hot spots have seen the largest growth in guest number over the last year, with a 213% increase in guests staying in Beaufort West and 208% in Ceres.
Locals are choosing staycations:
Over a third of all visitors were from South Africa to the region, emphasizing the growth in locals selecting for a staycation to take pleasure in the cities on their doorstep. US visitors were the second highest with 54,600 guest arrivals closely followed by Great Britain with 54,400 guest arrivals.
