With economies globally badly-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, sectors like tourism, aviation and hospitality are the most affected, with large sections of people confined to their homes due to restrictions and lockdowns. In India, the effects are no different. As per a study by industry chamber CII, and hospitality consulting firm Hotelivate, the pandemic has rendered a big blow to the Indian travel and tourism industry, and the entire chain linked to this sector might lose around Rs. 5 lakh crore.

Over the years, Airbnb bookings turned out to be a hot favorite for many tourists considering traditional and authentic guest experience, especially in idyllic, remote areas. However, now due to the pandemic- related woes, Airbnb hosts are also severely affected, with tourism coming to a grinding halt. Now, with easing of restrictions, and a vaccine for the virus coming soon, the industry is slowly coming back on track by accepting tourists, but not without safety measures in position.

Airbnb hosts are also gradually preparing to receive visitors with tourism reopening cautiously in different parts of India and elsewhere.
