british-airwaysAirbus SE is currently in talks to sell brand new A380 superjumbo airplanes to British Airways this year after they had secured a program-saving deal from Persian Gulf operator Emirates as per the people who are familiar with the matter.

This U.K. air carrier presently possesses 12 A380s in its fleet.

It has said in the past that it was looking for six to seven second-hand A380s. Therefore it is considering a larger number of new ones according to the people who refused to be named since the discussions are private.

John Leahy who is the outgoing head of sales of Airbus mentioned on a popular television media house that he is optimistic about that the European planemaker would be securing one more A380 order this year.

The people said that the customer is British Airways.

Airbus is based in Toulouse, France. IAG SA, the British Airways parent has refused to comment on this.

British Airways is thrilled about being involved in it since the jet has outstanding ability to maximize the number of passengers per flight at its London Heathrow hub that is running close to capacity limits.

The main focus of the carrier is on North Atlantic routes that are among the busiest long-haul services of the world.

Currently British Airways is examining new planes for this purpose.

The carrier’s superjumbos are fitted in a four-class configuration that features 469 seats as per the website.
