Airline mechanic held up for tampering with plane’s navigation system

Just before an American Airlines flight was due to take off with 150 people onboard a mechanic was charged with sabotaging the plane.

 

 

From Miami, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas the jet was due to fly when the sabotage got discovered.

 

An error message was triggered in the cockpit when the plane’s engines were powered up.According to the court affidavit the airline mechanic, Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani was upset over stalled union contract negotiations.

 

 

Due to this the plane had to abort its take-off and was taken out of service.

 

 

The court documents revealed that Alani had glued foam inside a tube in the nose gear that would block the aircraft’s navigation system. If the plane had taken off the pilots would be forced to fly the plane manually.

 

 

The motive of mechanic was not to cause harm to passengers or the aircraft but to cause flight delay or cancellations so he could work overtime.

 

Alani will appear in Miami court today and is charged with ‘wilfully damaging, destroying or disabling an aircraft.

 

 

Due to maintenance issue on July 17, flight 2834 from Miami to Nassau, Bahamashad to return to the gate due to maintenance issue.

 

 

A new aircraft was boarded by the passengers which re-departed from Nassau as American airlines is committed to the safety and security of their customers and team members.
During the time of the incident the aircraft was taken out of service, maintenance as performed and after an inspection to ensure the safety the aircraft was returned to service.

 

 

Federal law enforcement was notified by the Americans who took over the investigations with their full cooperation.
