The most intriguing part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup was on Saturday- the final set of quarterfinal matches that showcased England vs Sweden and Croatia vs Russia. While most of the fans freed themselves to be a part of the enigmatic game, those commuting via airlines could also manage to feel the tenuous situations.
Passengers on some airlines were able to catch the live telecast of FIFA World Cup at 37,000 feet through the entertainment system offering channel Sport 24.
Emirates, AeroMexico, Air Italy, American Airlines, ANA, Etihad, Garuda Indonesia, Hong Kong Airlines, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Thai, Turkish Airlines and WestJet were among the few airlines to provide live entertainment facility.
Other airlines that offered WiFi could only enable the passengers to get updates on latest scores on their phone or laptop. However, the connection was not fast enough to cater to live streaming.
Routehappy, a flight booking platform in its latest WiFi ratings list in January mentioned of 82 airlines that offered WiFi on flights. According to its ranking, the most reliable ones were Iceland, Southwest, Virgin Atlantic and Emirates.
Most of the UK-based budget airlines which provide in-flight announcement, members of cabin crew kept the passengers updated with scores.
Those at the airport could watch the match at pubs; London Heathrow has a dedicated page that lists exactly where one can find games playing there.
Football frenzy has taken the world by storm, and nothing can stop the travellers from cherishing their love for the World Cup.
