Algerian Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Hassan Mermouri said on Thursday that his nation is making efforts to lure more Chinese tourists by simplifying the via issuing procedures.
Mermouri also said that an agreement between Algeria and China is on its way to be signed that would facilitate visa issuance for Chinese globetrotters. It would be inked by the end of March.
A news media has asserted that the agreement has been outlined as it is ready to be inked in Algeria prior to the end of the initial quarter of this year.
In addition to the Chinese tourists, Algeria also wants to attract tourists from other nations like Russia and the nations of Eastern Europe. These steps are part of the ministry’s strategy to promote Algeria as a destination for tourists in global markets thereby restoring its place as tourist locale par excellence, as noted by the minister.
Neighboring countries to Algeria comprising Morocco and Tunisia that are widely reputed as being tourist nations have already facilitated visa issuance for Chinese nationals.
Algeria is aiming to diversify its economy to get rid of its complete independence on hydrocarbons as tourism stands out prominently as a potential sector that is likely to generate new revenues regarding the huge tourist potential of this North African country.
