Ali-Asghar Shalbafian becomes the Deputy Minister for Tourism in Iran

Ali-Asghar Shalbafian became Iran’s Deputy Minister for Tourism, substituting Vali Teymouri who took the position in October 2018.


In addition, the Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Minister named Ali Darabi as his deputy for cultural heritage affairs. Darabi put back Mohammad-Hassan Talebian who occupied the position in February 2013.


Previous to September, Zarghami requested travel agencies and tour operators to introduce reasonable packages that are targeted to kick-start domestic tourism when COVID-19 fear will slowly be diminishing.


As per tourism ministry statistics, in the first nine months of the past Iranian calendar year, in Iran, number of foreign visitors dropped 94% as the pandemic takes a heavy toll on tourism.


The ancient land hold close bazaars, museums, mosques, bridges, bathhouses, madrasas, mausoleums, churches, towers, and mansions and several other historical sites, of which 26 being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Under the 2025 Tourism Vision Plan, Iran is set to add to the number of tourist arrivals from 4.8 million in 2014 to 20 million in 2025.
