On Monday, the Morristown partnership announced that the 26th Annual Morristown Festival on the Green has been cancelled for the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic following the important safety regulations mandated by the State of New Jersey. The event was previously scheduled to take place on October 4, 2020 but will now return next year on September 26, 2020.

The annual Morristown Festival is celebrated around fall each year as a true testament of the rich national history and local pride of the community. Every year the festival welcomes more than 60,000 attendees in its historic downtown. Individuals from throughout Northern New Jersey take part in the festival to enjoy non-stop entertainment for all ages. Nearly 150 exhibitors display local businesses, restaurants, and notable community groups as a part of the festival. However, all of this will come to a halt this year considering the interest of public safety.

Jennifer Wehring, Executive Director, Morristown Partnership said in a statement that the organisation looks forward to this event each year in order to showcase Morristown’s bustling community, unique historic setting and its wide range of outstanding restaurant, retail and service businesses. However, she informed that the present situation limits outdoor gatherings to a maximum of 500 people with the compulsion of maintaining social distancing procedures.

She further mentions that as the festival holds a history of attracting over 60,000 attendees over the course of the day, a drastic reduction in visitors would not keep the spirit of the event alive. She added that additionally the logistical and financial obstacles essential to proceed with the festival while maintaining safety has made it unattainable in 2020. She also informed that 2020 continues to be a challenging year for business community.

She also applauded Morristown residents, surrounding communities, Town of Morristown officials and other organisations that has provided constant support during the crisis and mentioned that authorities are currently looking forward to see everyone at the 2021 Morristown Festival on the Green. She also urged the local community to continue providing support to Morristown’s businesses via adapted indoor shopping and entertainment, outdoor dining and take-out, outdoor and online fitness, salons, medical and business professionals, financial services among others.
