As we all know that an international vacation is out of bounds, China is in the midst of a major boom in theme-park as domestic tourists are looking for amusements in the area where they live.
Wuhan, the epicenter of Covid-19 outbreak, in mid-August, several locals packed the Maya Playa Water Park for a pool party, instantly driving out the bad memories of 76 days of stringent lockdown the city underwent.
With an aim to keep up that uncorked enthusiasm, entry to the water park was free of charge until the end of this year as Maya Playa, like other Chinese parks, is keen on capitalizing on the foreign-travel freeze by providing lucrative packages to perk up the visitor numbers.
At Colorful Yunnan Paradise in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, the ferris wheel has been adorned with a huge neon peacock. It’s Yunnan’s traditional symbol. Recently, the mostly college-age visitors yelled as they corkscrewed past the outstretched talons of a massive sculpture of an eagle while riding the Broad-Winged Snow Eagle Roller Coaster.
Some park visitors have narrated that without the travel restrictions imposed due to the pandemic, they wouldn’t have ever come here.
Rachel Zhang, a native of 25-year-old who had traveled to Disney’s resorts in Hong Kong and Shanghai erstwhile, chose a local excursion this summer.
“I didn’t have great expectations for this park,” Ms. Zhang said. “But I have to say I was impressed.”
China’s amusement parks have a checkered history. Besides the larger parks, the country has hundreds of local attractions of varying quality and scope.
