Anappeal to visitors to take lateral flow tests before visiting Cumbria might impact bookings at a “crucial time”, warned a tourist chief.
The area’s director of public health Colin Cox has said that tourists need to make surethat they are virus-free following a spike of cases in Eden.
However, Alison Magee-Barker, of AJ Lakes Consultancy said that such a move might “put people off”.
Mr. Cox said that the county was “stable” with an average of 200 new cases per day.
He said that the spike in Eden is due to a school prom in Kirkby Stephen in early-August with at least 10 confirmed cases.
However, he confirmed that the Appleby Horse Fair, which witnessed thousands of visitors to the county earlier this month, did not initiate a spike in cases.
Ms. Magee-Barker, working with tourism and hospitality firms, said that asking visitors to take tests might bring in a loss of business at a crucial time.
