Assam tea gardens to provide refreshing tea tourism experience

Soon, thegreen tea gardens of Assam will provide more than just the beverage that freshens people in the morning.


Visitors can enjoy an immersive experience amid the undulating emerald slopes, watchingexpert hands pluck two leaves and a bud, and factories processing the raw leaves into high-quality teas, as they sit back and unwind sipping their cup of tea.


The Assam government accompanied by private entrepreneurs isdiscovering the prospective of tea tourism in the state. Thebudding measures carried outhave attracted a good response so far.
Tourism is vital for the Assam state government and tea tourism is an opportunitywhich canproduce more income and arrange forwork opportunities.


Assam Budget for this financial year has reserved Rs. 50 crore as capital infrastructure funding for creating guest houses and tourist amenities inside select tea gardens.


The rules for this plan are being outlined and they are expected to be placed before the Cabinet by next week, said a tourism official.


RajanLohia, the Managing Director of ManohariTea Estate in Dibrugarh said that they haveinaugurated a resort inside their estate about two years before. The reaction from guests has proved to beencouraging.


The winters are the peak season fortourism in Assam, witnessing good tourist numbers. For the rest of the year, there are bookings generally from companies whose executives visit these areasfor official work and are looking for an experience away from anusual hotel in the busy city.


In agreementwith Lohia, RakhiDuttaSaikia of Pabhojan Tea Estate in Golaghat said that the USP of any tea estate is its tranquil and beautifulsurroundings.
