At CHOGM 2022, the potential of Uganda tourism was highlighted

 Wednesday, June 29, 2022

In Kigali, the Uganda Tourism Board together with the Uganda High Commission highlighted the tourism potential of Uganda in the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda. This event was showcased under the theme -‘Delivering A Common Future: Connecting, Innovation, and Transforming.’

At the Chancery in Kacyiru, the Uganda High Commission – Kigali and UTB arranged a Uganda Night. It disclosed the new ‘Pearl of Africa Destination’ brand to more than half a million probable visitors in the city of Rwanda, a land of thousand hills. During the Street Festival, the tourism sector of Uganda will take part in the networking opportunities as well that will bring to the forefront the unique culture, food and tourism potential of Uganda in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Association.

For Uganda, Rwanda is the second leading source market after Kenya, attracting more than 22,660 tourists in 2020 after a major drop in arrivals in 2019. Common transboundaries are shared by both the countries in terms of ethnicity, culture, history, and natural resources. As a result, these resources which are shared by both need joint marketing effort along with development of tourism products via collaborative transboundary interventions.

The participation of Uganda in CHOGM 2022 is an outstanding chance for the tourism opportunities of Uganda under the “Explore Uganda” destination brand and to communicate to the team of CHOGM 2022 about the transboundary tourism products between Uganda and Rwanda.
