At WTM, Kerala tourism grabs the award

At the impressive World Travel Mart, Kerala Tourism has grabbed the prominent Responsible Tourism Global award which was held in London.


At London, P A Mohammed Riyas, State Tourism Minister, received the award on behalf of the department and said that it was a major support for the tourism of Kerala.


For the STREET project, the award was given. Under the Kerala Government, it was implemented by the Responsible Tourism Mission.


Riyas said in a video message that he would like to share the highest pride that the state Responsible Tourism and the Tourism Department has grabbed the award for the water STREET project. The STREET stands for Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, Ethnic, and Tourism hubs and from March 31st, 2022, this was implemented.


The ‘street’ campaign is a water guard and conservation project in Tourism and was put into practice with public participation.


The minister also added that about the water street project, the Jury made special remarks, implemented at Maravanthuruthu in the Kottayam district.


The project mainly targets to make the canals and different waterbodies deeper at the same time clean them for tourism purposes, the tourism department said.


Eco-friendly coir cloth is draped over the banks of water bodies, as part of this initiation. The ‘Coir Bhoovastra’, as it’s named, is a natural cover of earth made from coconut fiber and will bring an end to erosion during monsoon season.
