The north portal of the Atal Tunnel, Rohtang, has turned into a tourist hotspot due to the recent snowfall in the Lahaul valley. A large number of tourists are visiting the Lahaul valley and various other tourist spots, enjoying and having fun in the snow. Tourism businesses have gained impetus in Sissu and Koksar villages, located in the vicinity of the north portal of the tunnel.

Tourists visiting Manali are interested to cross the Atal Tunnel, which is an engineering marvel, and reach the Lahaul valley for taking pleasure in the pristine view of fresh snowfall. Hundreds of tourists are enjoying the snow from Koksar to Gondhala. Some tourists are enjoying skiing at various places in the Lahaul valley.

Most of these tourists are coming to the valley are from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. However, many tourists, mainly women, are facing problems due to lack of public facilities in the area.

Hence, enough facilities should be put in place to manage visitor influx so that the beauty of the area isn’t spoiled. Some tourists also complained regarding lack of mobile signal in the valley.

The arrival of tourists has opened new avenues for the locals, creating employment opportunities for people in the valley. Tourists enjoyed fast food at temporary stalls put up by locals. The sale of gloves, mufflers and caps has also gone up in the wake of snowfall.
