With tourism industry marking 12 months of open borders, businesses in Australian tourism are still feeling the impacts of the Covid-related closures which made $45bn of tourism exports come to a halt.

Even though global travelers have rapidly got back their pre-pandemic penchant for travel in the northern hemisphere, Australia’s inbound visitor statistics are still increasing sluggishly, thereby lagging behind a long way to reach the peak.

ATEC Managing Director Peter Shelley stated that while worldwide visitor numbers are less, so does profits from business and government revenue. Eventually, there are fewer incitements for funding and inadequate industry growth.

With inbound tourism able to make such a noteworthy input to the end product of business and government reserves equally, getting back to market speedily has the additional advantage of assisting along the Australian economy.

The visitor numbers for December 2022 as per Australian Bureau of Statistics exhibit that Australia is still 40% down when contrasted to the number of global visitors who entered the country in December 2019.

Europe is by now at 87% of its pre-pandemic ability. But Australia still has a long way to go which will become doubly perplexing for the country’s tourism industry, given that Australia is a long-haul and more multifaceted destination making it more problematic for Australia to adapt global holiday makers.

Given the high level of affordability for the worldwide tourism dollar, Mr. Shelley opined that Australia’s slow-moving comeback fully emphasizes the necessity for robust government funding for re-establishing brand Australia on the international stage.
