The Tourism Educators and Movers (Team) Philippines had encouraged a stronger awareness on sustainable tourism in Negros Occidental and other provinces inside the nation.
Xander Kim Sigua, executive director, Team Philippines who spoke at the tourism awareness conference at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City on Tuesday on 20th February said that there is an urgent need to educate people about tourism.
Sigua also feels that unlike the countries like Singapore and Thailand most Filipinos have limited knowledge and understanding particularly about the technicalities and other essential aspects of tourism.
He then added that rising tourism awareness, especially sustainable development of the industry is among their important goals.
The organization’s counterpart in Western Visayas had initiated Tuesday’s tourism awareness conference that was attended by at least 1,200 stakeholders from the fields of business and tourism.
Other participants comprises representatives from the restaurant and hospitality management, technology, humanities and arts sectors, local government units (LGUs) and also the private sector.
The Seven New and Enterprising Ways of Growing Philippine Tourism Awareness and Local Economies 2018 was a one-day activity that aimed to portray competitive ways on how to diversify, build and sustain regional industry economies across regions in the Philippines.
Sigua said the conference is important because it serves as a venue to update all the students, practitioners, and educators about tourism.
