Azores holds a lot of potential in tourism growth

José Manuel Bolieiro,the president of the Regional Government of the Azores stressed the fact that the approach for tourism in the area is grounded on “excellence” and “quality” instead of “low prices.”


Bolieiro, the social democrat presiding over the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition executivespoke in Velas, on the island of São Jorge. Heemphasized that the Azores is “more and moreimproving tourism of excellence.”


He said that they want topromise tourism of distinction, not only for the fixedcapability to assurefulfillment to the demand, but also for improving the demand by means of flexibility to encourage the proposal in installed capability.
He stressed that their tourism attitude is “constantly at a level of fineness, not with low values.”


The Regional Statistics Service (SREA) disclosed that overnight sojourns in tourist lodging in the Azores multiplied by three between the months of January and April, when compared to the same period last year. However, it remained lower than the values witnessed in 2019, before the commencement of the pandemic.


There is a lot of potential for growth of tourism in the Azores. António Vasco Viveiros, from PSD said that tourism currently creates 20,000 jobs and Madeira and the Canaries are an example for the region.


Azores cannot be compared to bad instances from other Atlantic archipelagos. The tourist concentration in the Azores is 12. In Madeira it is 32 and45 in the Canaries.
