In order to showcase the 16-island destination’s latest tourism offerings and developments, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation (BMOTIA) is heading to Texas on April 12-14, 2023. They will also highlight The Bahamas’ tourism outlook, and connect with key industry leaders, partners, and media in three major cities.

The Honourable I. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, will lead the Global Missions in Texas. He will be accompanied by BMOTIA Director General Latia Duncombe and other top MOT officers. They will provide industry leaders in these markets with the resources they need to communicate why visiting The Bahamas should be on the bucket list of Texas citizens in 2023.

Building on the success of the initiative in 2022, the “Bringing The Bahamas to You” Global Missions tour will bring a taste of The Bahamas to Dallas, Austin, and Houston, Texas, as well as celebrate the country’s 50th anniversary of independence, highlighting a year-long calendar of events that visitors and Bahamians can join and enjoy. The Global Missions aims to raise brand awareness of The Islands of The Bahamas in important areas and generate tourism to the location.

The United States Department of State reported that 1.6 million Texas residents received a passport in 2022, the highest single-year distribution in the previous five years, implying that there will be more opportunities for Texans to visit and experience for themselves why the spirit of The Bahamas is so unique.

“With statistics showing an increase in international travel among Texans, now is the time for Texas residents to choose The Bahamas for their short haul vacations this summer and beyond,” said Deputy Prime Minister Cooper.

He added, “We want The Bahamas to be the initial stamp in first-time traveller’s passports, but we also look forward to welcoming back our repeat visitors who continue to choose us for their Caribbean vacation.”

With direct flights to The Bahamas taking only three hours, paradise doesn’t have to feel a world away. Frequent airlift makes the location easily accessible for Texans, with daily and weekend service via American Airlines and United Airlines from Dallas, Saturday service via American Airlines from Austin, and daily service via United Airlines from Houston. Great Bahama Island and the Out Islands are also accessible via Nassau.

The “Bringing The Bahamas to You” World Tour will stop in Los Angeles, California, and Atlanta, Georgia during the summer of 2023. In September, BMOTIA will also visit the United Kingdom.

Visitors planning a trip to the Bahamas in 2023 may expect year-long celebrations, activities, and festivities as the destination marks a golden jubilee of 50 years of freedom.

The National Family Island Sailing Regatta; the 50th on Bay Street Festival, an exciting street event exhibiting Bahamian art, food, entertainment, and more; Bahama Rock, a celebration of Bahamian music, and much more are among the highlights of the forthcoming 50th independence festivities.
