Bali Arranged Pilot Project on IP and Tourism

In Bali, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, has recently introduced a pilot project for the growth and expansion of intellectual property and tourism.

Razilu, the acting director general of intellectual property, said while forwarding his report on Tuesday to Yasonna Laoly, the Law and Human Rights Minister, Indonesia.

Talking about the reasons why Bali was selected for the pilot project, he said, that in Bali, there are two tourism clusters that are related to intellectual property. The first is ‘IP and gastro,’ as Balinese cooking is distinctive and has a possibility for gastro tourism, and the second is ‘IP and ecotourism.

Bali is generally known as a region with knowledge in culture and traditions that can help tourism along with its economy, both at the regional and national front says Razilu.

As part of the creative economy, he explains that tourism cannot be disconnected from intellectual property in any way.

He cited instances of the creative products of Bali like Gianyar, the silver handicrafts of Celuk, Amed’s traditional salt processing, Karangasem, and Kusamba, Klungkung; and Kintamani and Bangli’s coffee plantations. These Balinese crafts are in immediate need to get registered with the government. Then the rights to their use can add to the growth and expansion of local tourism along with economy. So, the Directorate General of Intellectual Property has re-introduced the mobile IP Clinic registration service at Puri Lukisan Museum, Ubud.
