The provincial administration of Bali is requesting the famous tourist spots on the resort island to call off all their operations over the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The regional secretary of the administration, Dewa Made Indra, who also acts as the head of the provincial task force for COVID-19, explained that the Governor Wayan Koster has recently informed all mayors and regents to shut down areas tourist destinations including nightclubs and other entertainment spots.

Nevertheless, he stated that the administration would not punish tourism places that have kept opened.

“We do not impose punishments. However, we remind all parties that this coronavirus is highly contagious and continues to spread; therefore, we must stay vigilant,” Dewa said on Friday.

“We should prioritize the safety of ourselves and the people around us. We have to avoid contracting the virus and spreading it to others.”

After the instruction of the Governor, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park in Badung regency on Saturday has been sprayed with disinfectants, as reported by tribunnews.com. The park has the popular 21-story-tall Garuda Wisnu Kencana monument showing the Hindu deity Vishnu riding Garuda.

The health authorities of Bali have reported three confirmed COVID-19 cases, two of which have died from the disease.

So far, there have not been any confirmed cases of local transmission, in spite of Bali being a hot spot for foreigners.

Till now, several Balinese have earned their living from tending and managing tourist attractions and entertainment places in the island, a popular holiday destination for both domestic and foreign tourists.
