Bangladesh reopens its tourist destinations

After remaining closed for months since 2020 due to the pandemic, across Bangladesh, clubs, resorts, community centers, as well as recreational facilities have finally reopened to the visitors.


On August 12th, the Bangladeshi government has finally taken the decision to allow tourist destinations to reopen with half of their capacities from August 19th, urging everyone to adhere to the guidelines related to health and safety, reports Xinhua news agency.


On Thursday, the Cabinet Division of Bangladesh has made this declaration, requesting all relevant authorities to make sure that compliance with the government-issued health safety protocols are maintained like wearing masks outdoors etc.


The statement came just after Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) has urged tourist spots which are reopening to save millions involved in the sector.


Of late, Md Rafeuzzaman, the TOAB president, has explained that the sector had to bear a loss of 200 billion taka ($2 billion) because of the pandemic.


He also mentioned that the crisis related to has created countless miseries to four million people associated with the tourism industry of the country.


The return of Covid-19 cases since June has compelled the Bangladeshi government to put into effect the latest lockdown that started from July 1st and continued till July 14th.


Again, the country re-imposed the lockdown from July 23rd to August 10th in phases after easing down restrictions for a week on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
