Bank holiday travel chaos cancels flights, delays trains

Bank-holidayOver 30 flights travelling to and from Heathrow had been cancelled owing to weather complications.

 

Low visibility had minimized the arrivals rate. Euromonitor has cautioned of probable delays throughout the morning and early afternoon. As delays built up, cancellations continued to increase.

 

A majority of cancellations included short-haul flight services of British Airways but then Eurowings, Aer Lingus and SAS also cancelled flights.

 

A spokesperson for British Airways mentioned that on one of the busiest weekends of the year, their teams had been working effortlessly to get tens of thousands of customers away on their half-term breaks, though it has been challenged by ill weather and thunderstorms across Europe.

 

Passengers utilizing Stansted Airport confronted with issues for a second day.

 

As many as 100 flights were cancelled on Sunday because of damage to the fuelling system and this disruption continued into Monday. The biggest airline Ryanair at the Essex airport cancelled further flights to Hamburg and Jerez in Spain and also their return legs.

 

Passengers of Jet2 who were on flights from Larnaca in Cyprus and the Greek island of Rhodes both had experienced 19-hour delays returning to Stansted with Paphos and Fuerteventura flights that were 17 hours behind schedule.

 

Thomas Cook Airlines flights from Antalya and Dalaman in Turkey were around 20 hours late arriving at Stansted.

 

It follows a weekend when Thomas Cook passengers flying from Gatwick to Dalaman in Turkey, Hurghada in Egypt and Bourgas in Bulgaria experienced delays of around 24 hours.

 

At Luton Airport, almost all easyJet flights in the afternoon and evening were late.

 

Further disruption lies ahead, with two air-traffic control strikes in Europe anticipated in the next 10 days.
